Selling On Social: Hard Sell Vs. Soft Sell

Do you know the difference between a HARD sell and a SOFT sell when it comes to your content?

Pull up a chair, let's chat.

In order to make sales, in order for people to hire you, in order for people to sign u,  you gotta talk about what you do. No one will have any idea that they can purchase XYZ from ya or hire you to help with such and such unless you talk about it and show it. Our audiences are not mind readers.

But here's the thang, lil cutie patootie. Selling on the 'gram does not necessarily equate to "buy this now!" 100% of the time. This is where the beauty of a hard sell vs. a soft sell comes into play.

Let's break it down.

Hard Sell:

A hard sell is where you directly communicate what it is that you offer and make it clear how people can purchase/work with you. For example, a health coach may create a post that highlights the various ways you can work with them or they may create a time-specific post about an upcoming launch.

A product based biz like a shirt company may create a post about their best-selling piece, a collection launch, or a special sale.

Soft Sell:

A soft sell is where things get more nuanced. A soft sell is more about creatively featuring what you offer/sell, or showing the value of what you offer/sell.

Ways to creatively feature what you offer/sell could be showing behind the scenes, whether that is BTS of your production or creation process, or BTS of something happening like a zoom coaching call for a client/your students. Ways to show the value of what you offer/sell could be highlighting a client testimonial or a customer review.

Oftentimes when we think of selling, we only think of the times when we say things like "link in bio!", "swipe up!", "dm me for more info!". Though these types of posts are necessary in order to be clear and to make it easy for those who want to buy from or work with us, it's not the only way to sell.

Hard selling is a great tool to be incredibly clear about what you sell or how to purchase from you.

Soft selling is a wonderful way to generate awareness and interest, and a way to provide more depth and insight into all that you do.
