Queen of Snacks

Hershey sponsored the creation of this blog post, but all opinions are my own.

I think it’s pretty safe to say that snacking is something that I could easily put under the “talents” section on my resume, along with coming up with songs on the spot, speaking in my dog’s voice, and being able to wiggle one ear at a time. When it comes to snacking, I’m the kind of gal who has to make sure there’s something tasty to eat in my bag when I walk out of the door in the morning, otherwise hanger can quickly set in to the misfortune of those around me.

But what sets one snack apart from the rest? What makes one snack rise above another? What takes a snack to the next level? I’ll tell ya right here, right now: versatility. A snack that can easily transition from day to night, and a snack that can function on its own or in the company of other ingredients around it.

My friends, I would like to introduce you to barkTHINS. Dark chocolate bark that is non-GMO, made with simple and responsibly sourced ingredients, and hot dang delicious.

I’ve partnered with barkTHINS to show you how I enjoy this snack three different ways!

1. Breakfast Yogurt Bowl

Breakfast is a crucial part of my day. I’m usually pretty hungry by the time I wake up, and if I don’t get something in my stomach within the hour, I tend to get nauseous. Though I certainly love a big breakfast (hello omelet and bacon and pancakes!) sometimes I need something a little lighter before heading out to workout. Here is a delicious yogurt breakfast bowl that I love. Take note of the frozen blueberry trick- not a lot of people think to do that but it’s so good!

Ingredients:
Plain greek yogurt
Frozen blueberries
Bananas
Granola
barkTHINS (dark chocolate pretzel)

Recipe:
Pour some frozen blueberries into a bowl and heat them in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds until they are warm and there’s blueberry juice in the bowl
Add in the greek yogurt and blend it with the warm blueberries
Slice some bananas and add them in
Sprinkle in some granola
Drizzle a small touch of honey
Break up a few pieces of barkTHINS
Enjoy!

2. Trail Mix On the Go

As I mentioned earlier, having a snack ready to go in my bag is crucial. Hunger can pretty much strike at any moment, so when I’m running around NYC from workouts to meetings to hanging with friends, I like to have something delicious that I can easily grab. Cue my barkTHINS trailmix! Creating your own trail mix is probably one of the easiest things that one can make, and it’s so simple to customize it to your own taste.

Ingredients:
Raw nuts (peanuts, almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, etc)
Raw seeds (pumpkin, sunflower)
Unsweetened dried fruit (raisins, craisins, apple, apricots, blueberries, etc)
barkTHINS (Almond with Sea Salt)
Optional items: shredded coconut, popcorn, pretzels

Recipe:
2 cups nuts
1 cup seeds
1 cup dried fruit
1 cup seeds
½ cup of broken up barkTHINS
Additional items to taste
Toss a portion into a reusable jar, throw it on your bag, and enjoy!

 3. barkTHINS on their own

By the end of the day, it’s time to finally relax. To set the scene: I’m in comfy pants on my couch or bed with my 14 year old Lhasa Apso named Thatcher by my side. Once I’ve eaten diner, it’s crucial for me to end the day with something sweet. I open up Netflix while simultaneously opening up a bag of barkTHINS (don’t ask how I manage to open both at the same time… it’s magic!) and proceed to melt into couch in pure bliss for the next hour before heading to bed.

Ingredients:
Choose one of the many flavors like Dark Chocolate Pretzel with Sea SaltDark Chocolate Coconut with AlmondsDark Chocolate Mint, or Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Seed with Sea Salt.

Recipe:
Open up the bag
Place your hand into the bag
Choose on of the many pieces of delicious dark chocolate bark
Place it into your mouth
Enjoy and go back for a second piece!
Repeat!

Well ladies and gents, that is how you enjoy one snack three ways!
